About
The walk from Ilfracombe to Woolacombe follows one of the most spectacular stretches of the South West Coast Path, weaving through dramatic cliffs, secluded coves, and windswept headlands. It’s a route packed with variety—quaint harbour views, wild coastal scenery, and the golden sands of one of England’s finest beaches.
Starting from Ilfracombe, the path climbs past rugged cliffs and sea-carved inlets, with constant views of the Bristol Channel and the Welsh coast on a clear day. The trail passes the striking Torrs Walk, an elevated clifftop route with panoramic vistas, before descending into tranquil valleys where streams meet the sea. Along the way, seabirds wheel overhead, and wildflowers in summer fill the cliffsides with colour.
The route finishes at Woolacombe Bay, a vast expanse of sandy beach stretching for three miles—perfect for a post-hike swim, surf, or well-earned rest. Whether tackled as a challenging day hike or broken into shorter sections, this walk showcases the very best of the North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
