About
Tucked away in the heart of Inshriach Forest near Kincraig, the Uath Lochans (pronounced “wah lochans”) are a cluster of small, tranquil lochs surrounded by pines, birchwoods, and dramatic crags. Often described as a hidden gem of the Cairngorms, this area is perfect for a gentle stroll with a big scenic reward.
Waymarked trails loop through the forest and along the loch shores, offering peaceful reflections of Scots pine and heather in the still water. A short climb to a rocky viewpoint reveals a breathtaking panorama of the lochans below, with the Cairngorm Mountains rising in the distance. It’s an especially beautiful spot at dawn or dusk, when the light casts golden colours across the forest and water.
The lochans are also rich in wildlife—dragonflies and damselflies dance above the water in summer, while red squirrels and deer can often be spotted among the trees. The sheltered trails make this a great family-friendly walk and a fine escape from the busier corners of the National Park.
