About
Hidden away on the shores of Loch Glass, north of Inverness, the Pink House is one of the Highlands’ most atmospheric and photogenic ruins. Officially the old Redcastle Boathouse, this roofless, salmon-pink stone building stands alone at the water’s edge, its striking colour reflected in the loch with the dramatic backdrop of Ben Wyvis towering behind.
Though roofless and long abandoned, the Pink House has become a favourite subject for photographers, walkers, and wild swimmers. Its remote setting, combined with the stillness of Loch Glass, creates a sense of mystery and solitude that feels uniquely Highland. At sunrise or sunset, the house glows against the surrounding hills, and on calm days its reflection in the loch is almost perfect.
Getting here feels like discovering a hidden gem: the loch lies off the beaten track, accessed via minor roads from Evanton, and the final approach is along quiet woodland and lochside paths. The reward is a view that captures both the romance of Highland ruins and the wild beauty of Scotland’s landscapes.
