About
Often described as offering the finest viewpoint in Britain, Sgùrr na Stri (494 m) may be modest in height compared to the giants of the Cuillin, but its summit panorama is truly world-class. From its rocky top, walkers are rewarded with a breathtaking view directly into the heart of the Black Cuillin, while below lies the shimmering blue of Loch Coruisk, framed by jagged peaks. Out to sea, the waters of the Sound of Sleat and the Isle of Rum complete an unforgettable scene.
The most popular route begins from Sligachan, following a long but steady path along the banks of the Allt Dearg Mor and into the wild heart of the Cuillin. Eventually, a climb up rougher ground leads to the summit, where the staggering panorama makes every step worthwhile. An alternative approach is from Elgol, sometimes combined with a boat trip to Loch Coruisk for a shorter ascent.
While not as technically demanding as the nearby Cuillin peaks, Sgùrr na Stri requires stamina, good navigation, and a full day on the hill. The reward is solitude, grandeur, and one of the most dramatic views anywhere in Scotland.
