About

Tucked within the Invercauld Estate, the walk to Keiloch Crag is a hidden gem offering a peaceful forest trail with a surprisingly rewarding view at the top. Though not a mountain, this modest crag provides a fantastic vantage point over Royal Deeside, framed by the towering Cairngorms beyond. The route begins from the Keiloch car park, just off the A93 near Braemar. The trail follows estate tracks through beautiful Caledonian pine forest, home to red squirrels and abundant birdlife. As you climb gently, the woodland opens up to reveal moorland and granite outcrops. A short, steeper section brings you to Keiloch Crag, where you'll find a broad rocky platform with sweeping views across Glen Dee, Lochnagar, and the River Dee valley. It's a perfect spot for a quiet break and some photography. This is an ideal walk for families, casual hikers, or anyone wanting a shorter outing that still feels wild and scenic. The estate tracks make it accessible in most conditions, even in winter.
