About
At the head of Glen Clova, two neighbouring Munros—Mayar (928 m) and Driesh (947 m)—make for one of the most popular double summits in the southern Cairngorms National Park. Offering a fine full-day circuit, the route combines dramatic glacial scenery with sweeping summit views over the Angus Glens and into the high Cairngorm plateau.
The walk begins from the Glen Doll car park, climbing first into the spectacular bowl of Corrie Fee, a classic glacial amphitheatre with towering cliffs and rare arctic-alpine plants. From the head of the corrie, a steep pull brings you onto the plateau and up to the summit of Mayar, where views extend across to Loch Muick, Mount Keen, and the eastern Highlands.
A broad ridge then links Mayar to Driesh, which sits above the Shank of Drumfollow. Though less dramatic in shape, its summit provides equally expansive vistas—on a clear day you can see all the way south to the North Sea coast. The descent follows the Shank of Drumfollow down into Glen Doll, completing a satisfying circular walk.
This is a rewarding outing for Munro-baggers and casual walkers alike: accessible yet still wild, with the added drama of Corrie Fee at its heart.
