About

Perched high above Inveraray Castle, the watchtower of Dùn na Cuaiche offers one of the finest viewpoints in Argyll. The small stone folly was built in 1748 as an eye-catching feature of the castle grounds, and today it rewards walkers with panoramic views across Loch Fyne, the town of Inveraray, and the surrounding hills. The route begins through the beautifully maintained Inveraray Castle grounds, following woodland paths that climb steadily through oak and conifer forest. Emerging above the trees, the tower soon comes into view, standing proudly on its hilltop. The final stretch is a little steep, but the effort is short-lived. From the summit, the vista is breathtaking: the deep blue of Loch Fyne stretching away, the neat white buildings of Inveraray below, and rolling Argyll landscapes fading into the distance. It’s a relatively short walk, yet the sense of reward feels much greater—perfect for families, casual walkers, or those wanting a quick adventure paired with a visit to the castle and town.
