About

Standing at 974 meters (3,196 ft), Ben Lomond is Scotland’s southernmost Munro and one of its most popular, offering a classic Highland mountain experience within easy reach of Glasgow and Stirling. Rising directly from the shores of Loch Lomond, its sweeping slopes and commanding summit views make it an unforgettable climb for both first-time Munro baggers and seasoned hillwalkers. The most common route begins from Rowardennan, following the well-maintained Tourist Path. The trail climbs gradually through birch woodland before breaking out onto open hillside, where expansive views across Loch Lomond’s island-studded waters quickly open up. The steady ascent leads to a broad ridge, and the final push to the summit reveals a breathtaking 360-degree panorama—west over the Arrochar Alps, north to the peaks of the Southern Highlands, and south across the rolling Lowlands. For a more adventurous descent, many hikers return via the Ptarmigan Ridge, a rougher, rockier path with dramatic views and a wilder feel, rejoining the main track near the lochside.
