About

Rising above the picturesque village of Luss, Beinn Dubh (642 m) offers one of the most accessible yet rewarding ridge walks in the Southern Highlands. Its sweeping grassy slopes and airy ridges give panoramic views across Loch Lomond and deep into the rugged Arrochar Alps, making it a favourite among walkers looking for a classic Scottish hill day without technical difficulty. The walk begins in Luss, climbing steadily from the lochside through farmland before gaining height onto open hillside. The path leads to the broad summit of Beinn Dubh, where the full drama of the landscape unfolds: southwards over Loch Lomond’s many islands, west to jagged peaks like Ben Arthur (The Cobbler), and north into the wilder Highlands. Most walkers continue along the undulating ridge towards Mid Hill, completing a scenic circular route that descends gently back to Luss. The terrain is mostly grassy, but the sense of space and height is exhilarating.
